Family History: The Taylor family can trace its roots back to the Mayflower, and lived in the state of Connecticut in New England up until the present day. The family also has a pureblood line that dates back as far as its roots in America does, but until the setting up of the Phoenixsong School of Spellcraft in the mid 1800s, they were taught at home by their parents. Charlotte's great-great-great-grandfather was among the first graduating class of the school. She always loved coming to Phoenixsong, and viewed it as her home away from home.

Her family is also quite close to the Shay family, her mother, Prudence, was close with Isabella ever since they had met at Phoenixsong, and thus their daughters became close as well. Every vacation or summer, they would alternate visiting either at the Shays' Manor home in Massachusetts, or the Taylors' Estate in Connecticut. Jayne's sister, Nicole, has a daughter the same age as Charlotte's daughter, and the two have been raised side-by-side, just as Charlotte and Jayne were. Melinda and Hayden often are "forced" to babysit Jayne's seven and two year old children.

Charlotte didn't meet her husband-to-be at school, because he grew up in Kentucky, and thus attended an entirely different magical school. They met on a hiking trip that Charlotte decided to go on to learn more about magical plants, and ended up in a competition with Nate over who could find more magical plants in the 24 hour long trip. Their fighting eventually led to courtship, and finally, marriage.

When Charlotte was 32 years old, she became a Professor at Phoenixsong, forcing poor Nate to become a stay-at-home Dad for Melinda. Her subject, funnily enough, ended up being Herbology, and four years later, she was named Headmistress. Never one to be left out, Jayne soon joined the staff as Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Charlotte named her Deputy Headmistress.

Charlotte often finds it somewhat difficult to deal with her daughter, Melinda, as she is much more free-spirited than she was at her age. This leads her to be somewhat harsher on her than she would on the other students.

"It's a girl!" Charlotte exhaled a sigh of relief that it was all over, and now she and Nate could just relax with their new baby girl. The baby was placed in her arms, and she kissed the downy softness of her head. Nate knelt down next to her, surreptitiously flexing his fingers.

"She's beautiful, Charlotte." She looked down at their baby and laughed,

"She looks more like you than like me." Nate rolled his eyes and told her to look again.

She did, and this time she could see a bit of herself in the jawline, the dark hair was the same color as hers, the eyes the same shape.

"Okay, maybe she looks like me..."

"What do you want to name her?"

"Well, the first name will have to be Melinda...the middle name of the parent being the first name of the baby is family tradition with me. You can pick her middle name if you want."

"I've always liked the name, Brianna. How does Melinda Brianna sound?"

"...kinda weird actually..."

"...are you making fun of my name choice?"

"...apparently." The nurses just shook their heads, this had been going on ever since the couple had arrived earlier that cold January morning. "Okay, fine. Melinda Brianna it is. But if she gets made fun of, I'm telling her its her daddy's fault." Melinda fussed in her arms, as if aware that she was in for a very...interesting family life.

Speaking of interesting family lives, just then the door crashed open to reveal her best friend, Jayne McLaughlin storming in. Charlotte's smile widened, ready for what Jayne was about to say. Probably something like: Okay, you beat me in the kid department...but you'll see! Someday I'll have more than you!

At the time, Charlotte didn't know that Jayne would end up being right.

Family History: Jayne McLaughlin was born to Isabella and Gordon McLaughlin in 1963 in a small town in Massachuetts. She was the eldest of their four children. Growing up, they lived in a rather large house, so there was plenty of room for them all. Each girl got their own room, and own room theme. Since Jayne was always into books and learning, her theme was well...books.

Growing up, her mother and father were best friends with Robert and Prudence Taylor. Therefore, Jayne became great friends with their daughter, Charlotte. Both girls were very excited when they got into the same house-Brightstar. They got to be roommates, and soon became the talk of the school.

In about her sixth year at Phoenixsong School of Spellcraft, Jayne started to become really good friends with James -Jimmy- Shay. He was also in Brightstar, but they never really talked before. He was on the Quidditch team, so he was always really busy with his team. One day after class, he took her hand and asked her to be his girlfriend. From that day on, they were always together...Unless Jayne was with Carlotte. She always put her best friend before her boyfriend.

Right after their seventh year at Phoenixsong School of Spellcraft, Jimmy asked Jayne to be his wife. After a huge squee, and a hug, she said yes. Her first sentence as an engaged woman was, "Charlotte! Want to be maid of honnor!?" Jimmy laughed, and shook his head. He should have know that Chatlotte would still come before he did.

Some years later, they had their first daughter. They named her Robyn Sammi McLaughlin. She couldn't believe that she finally had a daughter of her own. She asked Charlotte and Nate if they would be her God Parents. Jayne's three other sisters weren't the least bit upset that she didn't ask any of them-they all knew Jayne was very close to Charlotte.

Jayne's neice, Hayden, was so happy that her auntie Jayne was having a baby, that she told all of her friends that she now had a new baby cousin...and was very cute! Nicole, Hayden's mother, was so glad that her sister was joining her in the kids department. She had Hayden and was very pregnant with a baby boy.

Jayne, Jimmy, and Robyn all lived in Massachusetts where Jayne grew up. All of Jayne's sisters lived on the same street as them- for their family had their very own street named "Family Way". It was very peaful...and full of babies, toddlers, and kids! Every weekend Jayne, Jimmy, Robyn-and the rest of Jayne's family got to see Charlotte and her family. They switched off going to each other's houses.

About five years later, Jayne had her second daughter, Peyton Laura McLaughlin. By then, Jayne was already the Deputy Headmistress and DADA professor of the school..and had so many neices and nephews, she could barely keep track of them all! Jaynes loves her job, but always misses her husband, kids, and the rest of her family.

Romeo Hazlett married Helana Grant when they were the mere age of eightteen. They did not always live in America. Megyn was born in England, along with her older brother, William. They lived there until Megyn was around the age of ten. Both of her parents had attened Hogwarts School, and just always assumed that their children woukd, too. Sadly, Romeo got a new job in America. When they were just about ready to move, Helena found out she was pregnant with Jonathan. Their move was now going to be harder than they all thought.

The second they moved to America, two owls came to their new house. A large grey one was infront of William, and a small brown one was right infront of Megyn. Inside, these letters were telling them that they were invited to join Phoenixsong. William almost did not go. He felt as though Hogwarts was the only school for him. After many fights, both Megyn and William got on the bus that would take them to their new school.

Both Hazlett siblings got into Willowbramble. They were both welcome with open arms. Kids loved their brittish accent, and were always having them talk. By the time Megyn was in her fourth year, the accent was nearly gone. She had gotton used to the New York accent that most students had. To this day, you can only here a tad of brittish in her.

"Children! Children!" Professor Hazlett screamed at her drama students. It wasn't like them to be so wild and crazy one their first day of drama club. She has picked a classic for their first play-Romeo and Juliet. She was in love with that play, and couldn't help but smile at the thought of her students putting it on for the whole school and their parents. She knew it wasn't fair, but she already knew who she wanted for what part. She could see it now...and it made her beam. When she was a sixth year in Phoenixsong, her drama professor made them put on Romeo and Juliet. She had casted Megyn as Juliet. It was the best play that she had ever done. It was so dramatic and sad, she had the crowd on the edges on their seats. When the play was over, she still remembers a young man, Daniel Fencer, gave her a rose. He was her first love, and they ended up dating for a few months. It was him that made her want to put on this play again- so maybe her Juliet could find her own Daniel Fencer.

"Please just settle down and look everything over!" She waddled over to the back of the stage, where she saw two students having a lot of fun behind the curtains. "Oh my! The theater only allows that sort of action on the stage!" She huffed, and watched as they ran away. She could not believe that students were doing that in her theater! If they wanted to kiss so badly, they should try out for Romeo and Juliet! "Hayes! Rose!" She yelled, and looked around for them. She saw them together. That wasn't anything new. "Come here and show these newbie’s how it's done!" She walked down the stairs, and then yelled, "Hayes, you read for Juliet! Rose.....you read for Romeo!...Oh get over it, Rose!" She said before a Miss Hayden Rose could fight back.

"Welcome to potions my little first year minions!" Professor Tennant had a reputation in the school for being the most ridiculous teacher there is, well at least the class usually goes by fast.

"How have you been, no no don't all answer at once" Tennant laughed as he saw the frightened first years.

"Well since none of you look very eager i will start with a little bit about myself. Well i've been traveling for a couple years now and decided to get a fun job about 6 years ago and teach all you youngings and well slightly older youngins. Potions has always been my favorite class, which is why i'm teaching it now. And if you ever need help or anything do not be afraid to come to my office." Tennant was very pleased to see that the first years were starting to losen up.

"Well in order to get you guys talking and interacting the first potion the year and probably your first potion ever will be the BOIL POTION! Isn't that exciting folks? Wow you guys must be really tired.. Anyway, Here are the directions," Professor Tennant taped his wand onto the board and a short list came up onto the board.

"And you will beable to find all of the ingredients on the table in front of me." All the first years had a giant spread of panic come across their faces as the table in front was empty. Professor Tennant laughed again whispered an incantation and all the incredients came from the storage room onto the table in front of him.

"I'll make the antidote today, when there are twenty minutes left of class you will beable to test your potions on your friends, and i will be walking around helping anyone that inquires some. Now get to work!"

Family History: Ben is the son of two immigrants-although these two immigrants were not even from the same country! His father, Dominic, was from Italy, and his mother, Naomi, from Ireland. The two met at Northeastern, and married after four years of dating. They had Ben about two years into their marriage, and were very surprised when, at the age of 1 he showed a sign of magic. His mother had been fixing him a bottle, and put it on the table in order to clean up a plant the family cat had knocked over. Ben became impatient and began to fuss, and to Naomi’s surprise, he levitated the bottle all the way across the room to his high chair.

The Scarlottis were very adamant that he not use magic in the presence of others, something he did not quite understand until he was eleven years old and got his acceptance letter into Phoenixsong.

He graduated, and after eight years, returned to the school to teach Alchemy. He has been there for twelve years, and was a bit disappointed when he was passed over for Charlotte Hayes as Headmaster of the school. Charlotte knew this, and made him Head of his old House—Burnstrike.

He had married his wife, a muggle woman named Jackie right before he was asked to teach at the school. The couple thought they couldn’t have children, but were soon proven wrong by the birth of their son Gordon…which was followed by the birth of their second son Ellis…and then the most recent birth of their daughter Pamela.

Guess the doctors were wrong?

His parents were killed in a car accident four years ago, something he is struggling to deal with to this day.

Professor Benjamin Scarlotti sat down at his table in the Great Hall, waiting for the students to finish filing in. He could see that the incoming class of first years was as big as ever, and that made him smile. Although he couldn't get to teach them for a while yet, it was still nice to see all of the possibilities of students. His class was usually one of the most popular, something he took great pride in. His students usually also achieved some of the highest grades on their OWLs and NEWts because he really pushed them to try and do well.

He couldn't wait for Gordon to finally be old enough to attend Phoenixsong. And Ellis and Pamela too. He had been thinking about each of their first days ever since their births. In Pamela's case, that wasn't very long ago. He wondered how his wife, Jackie, was doing with the two boys and new baby. Luckily, she had a sister and half sister to help her take care of the rambunctious boys, so she could deal with Pamela by herself. There was hardly any need though, Pamela was so quiet compared to the way her brothers had been when they were her age.

His thoughts were interrupted by Headmistress Hayes getting up to give a speech. In the paste, he had often been annoyed by this, as he had been teaching at the school longer than she had, and yet she still managed to get the Headmistress job over him. It was, however, nice of her to make him Head of Burnstrike.

The Headmistress finished her speech, and all of the children began digging into their food. Ben wasn't far behind either. Many of the teachers were often disturbed by his sloppy eating habits, especially Megyn Hazlett, the drama professor.

Then again, what didn't disturb or annoy Miss Hazlett?

Family History: Sabrina was born to a happy family on a rainy April morning, in a normal house in South Florida. She grew up playing on the beach with her younger sister, and later, younger brother, until she was around 11 years old, at which time she received admittance into Phoenixsong Academy. Her parents, were, of course, thrilled that she’d be carrying on the wizarding tradition.
She eventually graduated school, as a seventh year, and went on to become a Healer at St. Mungo’s in England. It was here that she met the man that would become her husband, Mark Matherson, senior healer of the “magical maladies” ward. She fell for him at first sight, and, though she was only 18 and he in his 30s, they soon were engaged. A month after their wedding, she found that she was pregnant and, nine months later, her daughter Maggie was born.
The family lived happily for another year together. However, during their second year of marriage/parenthood, Mark began revealing his true colors. He came home late every night, not bothering to give an explanation as to where he was- not that one was needed, what with the heavy smell of alcohol on his breath. It wasn’t long before Mark started drinking at home, and became violent with his young wife and daughter. The final straw was when Mark struck young Maggie- the bruise stretching across Maggie’s left cheek helped Sabrina to realize that there was only one choice- to leave.
She moved out the very next day, and applied for a job as a teacher- something she’d never considered before, but figured it couldn’t hurt- at her old school, Phoenixsong. It had surprised her greatly when she was hired, and helped her support her daughter, who turned out to be quite the witch herself.

Morals: Try to look out for everyone, save everyone who can be saved, help in whatever way she can.

Professor Sabrina Summers stepped into her office, glad to be back after the long summer. Though the holiday had been nice, restful- she’d spent a good part of it visiting with her daughter, Maggie, who was back in England, working for the Ministry of Magic- she’d missed everything about the school- from its students, who she considered her children, to her co-workers, to her subject itself. Everything seemed to be right here at Phoenixsong- it’d always been that way.

Smiling to herself, she began to unpack- not that there was much to do. She’d left most of her stuff untouched from the previous year, so all that she really needed to do was place a few more photos among her scattered collection which lined the walls, throw her trunk up in her quarters upstairs, and dust the classroom off.

Smiling serenely to herself, Sabrina popped open her handbag and pulled out a handful of pictures. She smiled when she saw the first one- a picture of her and her daughter on top of a mountain, beaming at the camera. She added this one to the “adventure” category on the wall, right next to a picture of her, her sister, and her friend Kat at the beach when they were young. I remember that, thought Sabrina Summers, chuckling to herself, amused.

Reaching into her handbag again, she pulled out a different item, one that was considerably heavier. A book, labeled “Magical Medicine”. This was the other part of her life, her job. To make healers out of bright, compassionate young men and women that, like herself, wanted to make the world a better place, to gain skills which would help them in everyday life. Professor Summers opened the book and flipped to the first page, trying to think of a way to make the curriculum a bit more entertaining, more fun. However, the whole first chapter was a basic review of skills which, hopefully, most of the students would have picked up somewhere during their first 6 years in Phoenixsong. Keyword being, of course, hopefully. Chuckling to herself Serena closed the book with a thud and went to go pour herself a glass of Sparkling Cider, to toast in the new school year.

She was put in Brightstar, and very much enjoyed her time there. Now she’s back to teach- but what of her parents? Marcy and Carl are inching towards retirement, but still work for Carl’s father’s painting business- Marcy with the paperwork, and Carl with the supplies. They feel like they are losing their daughter to the wizarding world, but don’t know how to stop her.

The letter continued to tell her of the rest of the paper’s travel plans for him, ending with the usual Love, Your Charles. That “your” would be gone soon if Annie had anything to say about it. Having just arrived at Phoenixsong for her first year teaching, she had enough to deal with without this news. So this is what his promotion led to. If he was to be all over the country – the world – all of the time, never able to visit, was she honestly expected to keep this going? It wasn’t like either of them was madly in love, or anything – that was obvious enough. But he, with his seeming obliviousness, wasn’t making it any easier for her to break it off.

Annie sighed softly, and set the letter down on her desk. She would deal with that problem later she decided, and, for good measure, slid it under a good number of books and papers. Her owl, Ruby, cocked her head at the shuffling papers, as if to say, “Annie, what is getting into you?” She got up from her desk, and opened Ruby’s cage so that she could hop onto her shoulder. I wonder how much Phoenixsong has changed, she thought; the notion of exploring brought a child-like grin to her face. Ruby wobbling on her shoulder as she left the room, Annie’s smile faded, only to be replaced by a glow in her eyes. Her bags could wait to be unpacked, and Charles could wait to be written to - she had the other professors to meet and a castle to explore.
